The National Association of College & University Food Services (NACUFS) organization recognizes institutions who creatively showcase their special diet offerings and it celebrates exemplary menus, presentations, special event planning, and new dining concepts. This year NACUFS announced Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) as the recipient of two silver awards for the 2024 NACUFS Nutrition category of Special Diet Recipe of the Year (Lentil Tostada with Poblano Corn Salsa; Spicy Black Bean Quinoa Burger with Mango Salsa), and a gold award for the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards category for Retail Sales: Single Concept of the Year (Kishido).

Representatives from the Campus Auxiliary Services administrative, culinary, and marketing teams attended the 2024 NACUFS National Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky from July 17–20, when all award recipients were officially recognized. All attendees participated in daily learning sessions to enhance their culinary knowledge and skills, with discussion topics including sustainability, community engagement, special dietary needs, leadership, enhancing your cooking, and more. Each session was carefully crafted to ensure that those in attendance received the tools necessary to enhance their ability to better serve their campus communities.

The CAS team had the opportunity to network with attendees from colleges and universities located throughout the United States. This conference presented all teams with a chance to share ideas on college dining, connect, and create everlasting relationships. This event also allows campus dining to explore and discover various brands in the dining industry, testing their products and partnering to bring new products to their respective college campuses.

Campus Auxiliary Services strives to provide everyone who steps foot in our dining locations with an enjoyable, delicious, and nutritious meal. Our services and offerings are constantly evolving to meet the diverse dietary needs of our campus community. Events such as NACUFS allows our team to explore fresh new options and ideas that accommodate special dietary needs, as well as provide everyday customers with an array of nutritious food options.

Campus Auxiliary Services, an affiliate of the �鶹��ý�Ŷ� Division of Finance and Administration, is proud to continue to provide our employees with various opportunities to learn and grow in their professional careers. Each of these awards is a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication to their craft. Congratulations to all who contributed to the assembly of the Campus Auxiliary Services submissions.

Carolyn Spencer, Assistant Manager at the Letchworth Dining Complex, has been accepted into the inaugural cohort for the two-year Diversity in Auxiliary Leadership (DIAL) program—a new offering from the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS). This program is designed to attract leaders who bring a wide variety of professional and personal experiences to the table. It also aids individuals from historically underrepresented groups (i.e. people of color, LGBTQ+, those with disabilities) to advance in leadership positions within the auxiliary services and higher education profession. Congratulations Carolyn on this notable achievement as one of the 15 individuals selected for this opportunity!

Tom D’Angelo, Director of Supply Chain for Campus Auxiliary Services, is this year’s recipient of the CAS Levison Award of Excellence. This award, named after Dr. Kenneth Levison, recognizes outstanding achievement in one's professional position, as well as a high level of leadership skills and service contributions.

The criteria for this award include having a consistently high level of performance that results in a recognizable and meaningful impact on the organization, and continuous involvement in supporting the mission of the organization while achieving results that serve as a role model to other members of the campus community.

Tom was nominated for embodying our Campus Auxiliary Services mission to have a positive effect on the lives of all who engage our community, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the college. During his 40+ years with CAS, he worked closely with Restaurants and Cafés to procure specialty products, spices and meats for special events, cultural dinners, campus-wide catering events and Presidential parties. He is noted for going above and beyond in service of others. He makes a significant impact in both big and small ways. You may have seen him behind a waffle maker at Accepted Knights, working at the concessions stand for graduation, bartending for galas and reunions, driving delivery as needed, because no job is too big or small when it comes to supporting and having a positive impact on his colleagues and community. He’s coordinated with our food suppliers to develop internships for �鶹��ý�Ŷ� students, allowing students to gain valuable work experience, explore a career path, and build and refine skills that will give them an edge in the job market. His efforts also play an integral role in supporting our local businesses and farmers, and he’s responsible for our annual Food Show and Pride of New York events that bring local companies and farmers to showcase their animals and products on campus. Tom’s generous nature extends to the community surrounding the college as well. He is the driving force behind years of donations to local organizations in need. From organizing donations to local food banks such as Foodlink, �鶹��ý�Ŷ� Methodist Church and �鶹��ý�Ŷ� Groveland Food Pantry, to donating equipment and furniture to the Arc of Livingston-Wyoming.

You can always trust that Tom will get the job done, and that has left a lasting impression on our organization. Tom, we can’t say enough about your contributions and we thank you for your dedication, dependability, and positivity in serving our campus and community.

Our Starbucks team has been named as the Team of the Quarter for quarter two! The team has worked very hard over the last semester to bring the campus community wonderful tasting coffee and delightful service on a daily basis.

Joe Rizzo, District Manager of Western New York and Syracuse area Starbucks locations, said there are many things the team has done to earn this award. For starters, Joe said, "regardless of their position or role – they coach and encourage each other to create the best moments internally which allows them to create the best moments for their faculty and staff". He also said "they celebrate all accomplishments – no matter how big or how small. An example would be sending out an email when a member of their team completes their barista training and earns their pin" as well as "the team is always upbeat and outgoing, and really work well with each other!".

Congratulations, Starbucks team! We are so proud of you and grateful for all you do for the campus community!

Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) Executive Director Mat Felthousen has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group of University and College Computing Services (ACM-SIGUCCS.)

Before joining CAS, Mat worked for almost 30 years in the information technology field. In his previous position, Mat served as the Vice President and CIO, Office of Support Service at the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA.) While at CIA, he created a support and service group responsible for building grounds, mail and packages, events management, printing and copying, and much more. Mat was also one of the original presenters and members of the New York Computing in Higher Education Symposium, formed in 1997. Mat's other accomplishments include implementing conference spaces for several renovation and construction projects and unifying the Cleveland Institute of Art campus.

"It is my honor to join the SIGUCCS Hall of Fame, as I would not be where I am today without the mentorship and support from many of the inductees. SIGUCCS was my first professional development opportunity. Although I am no longer in Information Technology, the lessons I have learned about service remain vital to my career. Most importantly, I treasure the close friendships that have resulted," Mat said.

Lindsay Cannon, Manager of our on-campus Starbucks location, has been selected Starbuck's Leader of the Quarter!

Joe Rizzo, District Manager of Western New York and Syracuse area Starbucks locations, named Lindsay the Leader of the Quarter as she has accomplished many things during her time as manager with Starbucks. Notably, for her constant out-of-the-box thinking- creating a virtual train-from-home program for her student employees, creating "grab bags" to drive sales, and help our on-campus location achieve a 64% customer connection. "There are so many other reasons outside of these – what a great leader and Starbucks brand ambassador," Joe said.
