Samantha Marchant is a playwright and director based in WNY. She graduated from the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing at Spalding University with a concentration in Playwriting. Her work has been produced on both US coasts and has had readings all across the country and in Canada. Her plays have been produced or developed with Nickel Flour, Woven Theatre, Inkwell Lab, Workshop Theater, The Pulp Stage, The Skeleton Rep(resents), Theater Three, TMDT, Post Industrial Productions, Skull and Dagger, Alleyway Theatre, and Route 66, among others. She has attended the Sewanee Writers’ Conference as a Horton Foote Scholar in playwriting and was a DGF National Fellowship Finalist. Her writing has been published in Smith & Kraus The Best 10-Minute Plays, Go Play Outside, The Louisville Review, Sick Lit Magazine and Women Writing Letters Season 3 and 4. Her full-length script, Turtle Play (The Play About the Turtle), is now available from Next Stage Press. She is a proud member of the Dramatist Guild and BAWG Playwrights. Program Highlights

Course content is either directly creative or focuses on the process of creativity, the outcome of creativity, or the generation of situations that foster creativity.
Students can choose to emphasize one area of creative practice or sample from across the curriculum.
Curriculum includes courses with cultural and aesthetic diversity.

Multidisciplinary Creative Practice

Why study creative practice at �鶹��ý�Ŷ�?

This minor is a good fit for students who aren’t studying fine arts but who are interested in engaging with their personal creativity. It fosters creative thinking and practice, critical thinking, problem-solving, and the integration of theory and practice in a transformational manner by bringing together research, intellectual development, and practical application in different disciplines and areas of creative expression, which are inherently self-reflective. Students can explore their expressive potential in the generation of original projects, works of art, scientific experiments, and created texts.

Program Highlights

�鶹��ý�Ŷ� supports a variety of student dance organizations.
Artists-in-residence give students an opportunity to learn from esteemed professionals.
The College has two dance studios and two fully equipped stages.
A diverse learning environment helps students broaden their viewpoint to participate in a multicultural society and interrelated world.
Graduates go on to pursue advanced dance studies, choreograph for public school musical theatre productions, teach in private studios, perform in small regional companies, perform in Equity musicals, and use dance therapy to work with physically or emotionally disabled persons.

Dance

Why study dance at �鶹��ý�Ŷ�?

�鶹��ý�Ŷ� offers two minors: dance studies and dance history. An audition demonstrating proficiency at the 200-level in two techniques, either ballet, modern, or jazz is required for admission to the dance studies minor. Students develop their potential as performers, choreographers, teachers, and research assistants. The non-performance dance history minor complements the performance-based minor, introducing students to the history of dance from a wide variety of cultural perspectives.
