ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ΝΕΆΣ Dance Ensemble Presents 110th Concert in March

ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ΝΕΆΣ’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents the ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ΝΕΆΣ Dance Ensemble in β€œDancing on Instinct,” featuring works by student choreographers with 32 performers.

Performances will be held March 2–4 at 7:30 p.m. and March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Alice Austin Theatre in William A. Brodie Hall on campus. Shows are $12 and open to the public. Tickets are available at Student Association Ticket Office or in cash at the door.

The concert is artistically directed and produced by Jonette Lancos, professor of dance studies, who will present β€œBallet For Nine.” Guest artist-in-residence Jon Lehrer restaged a contemporary repertoire work β€œLa Follia” to music by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, La Follia (Concerto grosso Sonata #12 Opus 1).

Other choreography will be presented by adjunct faculty members Nicolette Ferguson, Deborah Scodese-French, and Allison Thomashefski. Guest adjudicators were Garth Fagan Dance principal dancer, rehearsal director, and choreographer Norwood Pennewell, who attended ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ΝΕΆΣ, and Lehrer.

Student work features Elizabeth Allegro ’23 and Samantha Percy ’23. β€œHeavens Above” will be performed by the dance composition class. Skyllar Cicero '23, Abigail Costa '24, Victoria Garland '24, and Olivia Johnson '24 will present their final projects, using the β€œElements and Principles of Design” as exhibited in the images taken with the James Webb Space Telescope.

ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ΝΕΆΣ's kinesiology class will also perform a Ball Dance, which takes the technique and theory of PhysioBall conditioning beyond exercise.

β€œDancing on Instinct” is directed by Lancos in collaboration with senior student assistants Elizabeth Allegro ’23, Samantha Percy ’23, Emma Piwko ’23, and Mary Roberts ’23. Stage manager is Hannarose Manning ’23. Theatre and dance chair Johnnie Ferrell is mentoring student lighting designers Stephanie Billharz ’24 and Tucker Marvin ’24. The costume shop is supervised by Lisa Miskell with guest costume designer Lindsey Voorhees.
